Hope you are up for some DIY.

Here is what I would do.Remove the bulkhead.top portion of the cabinets. Except for that funny corner. Remove the cabinet over the sink. Remove the paneling on the right of the window and where ever else it is.

Match the paneling type.called bead and board ( it’s inexpensive).on the island and place where the paneling is now. Paint it and the center island. I would choose a lighter color from the back splash. Put the cabinet you removed over the sink over the stove. Put a dish rack over the sink. Trim out the top of the cabinets with molding. Then go with the terracotta color in the back splash tile. The cabinets need a good sanding and a coat of polyurethane I would stain them a few shades darker. The hardware should be a dull silver like pewter or brushed chrome. Center a light over the Island.

Pictures:

If removing the soffit is to daunting trim out like this http://www.artisaninteriorsnj.com/archives/mcnulty%20after%201a%20355X264.jpg
If you can handel knocking the soffits out it will look like this http://barnwoodcreations1.com/igmz/cc08.jpg
Dish and wine rack http://eicabinetry.com/generated/zoom/accessories/dish_rack.jpg
Bump out the cabinet you pulled from over the sink and center it over the stove trim that out too and leave the bottom curved piece. http://youngccm.com/images/1001091733.jpg Putting two 2 x 4’s in back of that cabinet will make it stand out a bit more. You can raise the height to allow a fan or microwave under it.
This is bead and board. http://www.ourfixerupper.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/beadboard01.jpg it comes in 4 x 4 and 4 x 8′ sheets

This soft brownish/orange of the terracotta on the wall will look great. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ol-images/sf/uploads/10-26-suze1.jpg
Check thrift and used furniture shops for funky hanging lights for over the island. http://s9.thisnext.com/media/largest_dimension/BCBC68E5.jpg
http://www.ruizantiquelighting.com/images-ceiling-light/CL001-pink-ceramic.jpg

To do all the things I suggested will run you between $ 250 to $ 300.

Whatever you do, choose a green to actually paint the walls, lighter than the green you chose from the paint chips. The lighter color green will make your kitchen seem brighter and spacious. And, you won’t tire of it as quickly.

I think you should take into consideration all the things in the kitchen and surrounding area that you can’t change right away, for example, what color is the kitchen counter. Do you have a favorite bowl or dish that you plan to display. You could choose a color from it. I would get some paint charts and once you close you can compare them to your cabinets, counter and appliances and any accessories you may want to use. Good Luck.

A light green would work in that kitchen. I painted part of our house a light green. The big thing I think you should be careful about is getting too close to a lime green. A small area of lime green may look okay, but an entire room may not to some people. So if you go with a lighter green, I would stay away from colors that are too bright. It could give the 50-60s feel, which you may not be going for.

I think lighter colors are better than darker in most situations as a brighter color makes a room look bigger. A kitchen of all places should especially feel open. If green isn’t your favorite color, then you could go with a lighter version of your favorite color. On the other hand, an orange or red may give a feeling of warmth. I still would go with the green though.

The first paragraph can be cut. It becomes apparent in the rest of the text that its a big occasion - no need to mention it so explicitly.
The rest of the paragraphs are so mixed up I can’t understand what’s happening. You mention setting the table and the centre piece, then include the description in the next paragraph. You need to have clear points in every paragraph; the first would be about the expectation, the excitement. The second about laying the table, the guests that are coming and the cooking. The third would be about the guests arriving, giving out drinks, putting the food on the table ect.
You seem set on describing all the recipes and preparation of the food, but it isn’t really necessary. Saying something like “My mother had been up since 4 in the morning, preparing the food. And now it was all nearly ready; the turkey in the oven smelled.”
I’m not trying to be harsh; it’s my honest opinion and this needs a lot of work, but it could be a very good piece of descriptive writing.

I’ll give my honest opinions here.
It seemed somewhat like the preparation for a kitty party.it was quite good except that you messed up the grammar a bit. but all those recipes and dishes, which surely made my mouth water, from the story-writing point of view, it seemed stretched too long. male readers would not like endless stretch of such arrangements of food, i m afraid, unless they are staunch gluttons.
don’t concentrate on the food alone, but also write about what everyone is feeling and how the atmosphere is.

should it be in the present tense or the past. you start off in the present “waters”"is” then drop off into past with “also had” and “I got out”

I was so exhilarated or I am so exhilarated.

In a way your idiosyncratic grammar adds to the atmosphere, perhaps leave it as it is.
