We’ve not tried the hot stone grill cooking concept yet at our dinner table, but it looks really amazing. Basically the stone has two warmers that allow the stone to heat up like a grill so you can cook meats, vegetables, poultry, sausages right at your dinner table. We’ve also seen this with hot salt stone cooking, but this one forgoes the salt to give you more of an all around cooking / grilling surface. Rok cooking is one of the companies making both commercial and consumer versions of the hot grill stones. This video shows you basically what to expect on using one of these hot stones. This 12-cup whistling kettle made of thermal-shock-resistant borosilicate glass features a removable lid, heat-resistant phenolic handle, and a drip-free spout. What we really like is how it can be used on gas or electric stovetops, and best of all it’s dishwasher-safe. If you’ve never had a clear glass kettle the thing about it that makes it fun is seeing the water boil. We love knowing before the whistle that the water is about ready to go. There’s just something so classic about this tea kettle from Le Creuset. This kettle just has the look and gets the job done by conducting heat efficiently and boiling water quickly to waste less energy. The kettle is coated with durable porcelain enamel and will not corrode, and the handle locks into position for easy pouring. And yes - it has a whistle and it’s quite loud when the water reaches a rolling boil. And if you have one of those fancy induction cooking surfaces - it works on them as well as regular stoves. Now that August is here and we have all had a chance to experience the heat of summer, I have a question – have any readers used a portable air conditioner? Not the fixed models that mount in the window, but the free-standing style that sit in the middle of a room with a tube that allows it to vent outdoors. How about a Swamp, or Evaporative cooler? The efficacy of the air conditioners seems doubtful to me. Do they have the power to cool a room when at the same time they are producing so much energy (that’s heat!) to run the motor? Many years ago, my in-laws had what we called a swamp cooler. It was also free-standing and worked by blowing air over water soaked pads. The air that came into the room was cooled as it passed through the pads.

It’s that time of year when yes it’s hot but soon it will be a bit cooler, and then I’ll need to well make giant amounts of smoked meats and fry a turkey. It happens every fall, and we end up having more cookouts because more people are around on the weekend then in the summer. I think this versatile cooker which can fry, grill, or smoke with gas, or grill or smoke with charcoal will meet all of my outdoor cooking needs. There’s a heat indicator, and even stay-cool wooden handles.
