I am remodeling my kitchen and have white cabinets (not super white but nice white). I selected black counter top with small yellowish stones but I am having second thoughts if black counter top is a good idea. This is what I am getting http://www.caesarstoneus.com/catalog/product.cfm.ProductID=64
I have been told that countertop should be contrast to cabinets and that is one reason I picked black. Should I keep the black counter top, should I get something different. if different which color would compliment white nicely. I like dark green too.

Personally I love black counter tops. It depends on the rest of your house though - what color are your walls. Furniture. Accent colors. Flooring.
Black counter top with white cabinets would make it a chic sort of feel for me - like having stainless steel appliances and black leather furniture. If that’s the look you’re going for - it’s perfect.
It’s your kitchen; use what you like. I would go with some “color” of some type because all light colors tend to make a room look washed out. That doesn’t mean it has to be a dark or strong color but have some presence on it’s own. Gray, browns would work also.
Black is really popular right now but they do show every crumb and bit of dust, flour, sugar. Some people with vision issues or that wear bifocals say that black messes with them and their depth perception.
What color is your flooring. Appliances. Does the room get a lot of natural light or not so much. Do you have a lot of wood in there other than the cabinets which are white. The only thing I wouldn’t go with is the bright red or the apple green; those colors are just too personalized and would not appeal to others if and when you sell your home.
And by keeping the counters a neutral color, you can work more color in with accessories and fabrics. And if the urge for change hits (which it always does), it will be much easier changing curtains, towels and display items than changing counters.
