I had to work from home today and I set my laptop on my kitchen’s vinyl prep table. every time I move my winamp is popping & clicking (from static affecting either the laptop or the usb hard drive).
Why aren’t these devices grounded with a 3rd prong on the power cable like other electronics devices (like a home pc). Is there some good reason, or are the manufacturers just being cheap.

I doubt your problem is related to the missing ground. Laptops use about 50 W, so the extra ground is not needed.
Static can’t make apps pop up. You have some other problem.
