Here’s a virtual room designer:

Pick the kitchen theme and start virtually designing. ALSO, take a picture of your kitchen, upload and go to that same site but use Shaw’s designer called “Try on a Floor”. Virtually design your kitchen (wall colors, flooring, cabinet colors, area rugs, etc etc etc everything.) See what you like and what you don’t. P.S. All free and all fun to use.
I think since you have light colored cabinets you should go with darker colored walls if you get a lot of light. I like orange walls in the kitchen for some reason or mayb some sort of red.

Hope this helps
A light yellow would probably look best in there.
Or a tanish color.
But keep it light so it matches with your white appliances & light cabinets.
Or if you want a nice contrast then you should go dark and paint it a deep shade of green or something.
i would paint it a pale yellow color, that would look great.
I would start with accessories, a painting, or kitchen item you love first and then pick a color for the wall from there.
Personally, if I had light maple cabinets, I would probably go with a very light blue gray color, like the Surf collection from BB&B, and then have some white vases, canisters and bowls or clear glass as accessories:

I would take the lightest towel to Lowe’s or Home Depot and have them color match it for you.

Or I would go for a beige, because beige looks good with everything, but I know some people think it’s plain, but I like it:

IKEA has several shots of kitchens with maple cabinets, you might check on there to get some ideas:

If you go with green, I would go for a funky green, not a pastel or hunter green. Something like this: http://furniturefromhome.com/images/store/565p-1/760×600/image.jpg
I’m not a professional, so that’s just my opinion. I hope it helps and I hope your kitchen turns out nice.
