In the UK there has been a rise in knife crime over the last 3 or 4 years or possibly even longer than that and i know just how it was once documented that people sell knives on ebay. Do you think this is right or wrong. Many people will state it is wrong because most of the people buying them might be kids or young gang members, whereas there is always the argument that some people just need knives for innocent intended use like to use in the kitchen for instance.
People always seem to balance the “Knives should not be sold because of knife crime these days amongst people” with “I have the right to purchase what i want from ebay or any similar site” So long as people think like this, i personally see no realistic way that any authority can prevent the sales of these items which sometime are solely being purchased to maim or even kill.
I just out of curiosity went onto ebay and typed in knives and i saw all sorts of knife types (pocket knifes to swords even). I couldnt believe my eyes and that made me cement my opinion that knives should definetely not be sold over the net. In my opinion, if you need a knife for kitchen related jobs, go to a hardware store. People hide behind anonymity on the internet very frequently with sometimes disastroud consequences.
Whats your view regarding the titled question and the accompanying message here. Cheers

It’s not knives that kill people. PEOPLE do. lets stop going overboard Liberal lefty style over everything .
The rise in knife crimes was the inevitable result of the gun ban.
Putting everyone in a safe padded box because of the actions of a few criminals or idiots is always self-defeating, and punishes the wrong people.
Why should the sale of anything be banned.
The problem is knowing if the potential buyer is over the legal age for that item.
If sales of knives are age restriced as they are in a physical shop they should be similarly age restricted on the Internet including ebay.
Sure they should sell knives. I bought a great knife from ebay about 2 yrs ago and it is a great tool. Don’t forget. a knife has never done wrong, the handler is where the problem lies. If there were no knifes then BAD people would make a weapon to do their dirty work. Should ebay not sell pencils because people misspell words. Or not offer cars because people might hit and run. Its a people problem ant an ebay problem. I hope that this helps Dave. Have a Merry Christmas and the best of health to you.
The brand of knife I choose to use in my kitchen can’t be purchased at a hardware store. I have only found this brand sold at church bazaar sales, thrift markets, or ebay.
I can tell you, as a public school teacher, if a “kid” wants a knife, that “kid” can get a knife. That “kid” can also get a gun.–and that “kid” doesn’t have to go on ebay.
They should be banned from selling knives - A knife should be licenced sellers only. Yes I know that knives dont kill only people but if people cant get hold of knives then it makes it a bit harder to kill.
I strongly feel the seller has some responsibility to ensure that knives dont get into the wrong hands.
I did a garage clearing car boot sale a few months ago and naively had a carving knife and fork set. A group of young lads came over and started looking at the knife and making stabbing motions to test its weight and how sharp the point was. When they asked me how much it was I told them £30 as I didn’t want to sell it to them as they were not going to carve the Sunday roast with it. I then took it off sale.
The point being had I sold that via the internet I would not have a clue who was buying it. I am sure that this group of lads already have several knives some may have been purchased from ebay or other sites but at least I know they are not going to stab someone with my stuff.
Ban it
The problem is most people will not go on ebay to get a knife when they can purchase one just about anywhere, its a fact that most knife crimes or those caught with knives are of the kitchen variety, it would be impossible to regulate the sale of knives or more ridiculous to ban them as some politicians have stated, the problem is not the knife but those individuals who seem intent on causing injury or death to another person, i have come across cases where a knife was used and the reasons given made me think that some of these individuals belong in a secure mental ward, the law needs to address this and do so in a harsh way and that means if they are caught then they should on conviction get a long prison sentence, these people are not hard-nuts but on the whole cowards and mentally un balanced and this sort of person needs to be removed from society.
please.if someone did not have a knife and had the mental capacity to hurt someone, what would stop them from picking up a broken beer bottle. may be should make glass beer bottles illegal.maybe the answer would be to look at how children are raised.now that plastic guns are not allowed, what do the kids do when they go outside. they will go out and pick up a broken branch or stick.wait we should outlaw tree’s.
