I tried to install a dishwasher and accidentally flooded my kitchen. My insurance company authorised that a new fitted kitchen and wall tiles be installed. The repair company told me not to use my dishwasher because they broke a washer and were afraid it would leak. They said yesterday that this was fixed and they would check appliances (dishwasher and washing machine) before they left. I put my dishwasher through a cycle last night. There was a leak. I pulled it out to investigate and observed that my washing machine was to blame. My washing machine was switched off at the mains. The tradesmen put it through a cycle yesterday evening. Anyway I pulled out washing machine to see how much water was there and next thing water is gushing from behind the machine. I searched for the switch off valve as quickly as I could took me about two minutes to find it. By that time my kitchen floor was covered in water. I am only able to contact the contractor during office hours. I took pictures of the mess. I acted quickly to mop up water (two buckets) and minimum damage. I will contact my insureance company now. Who is liable - the contractor or my insurance company. I have no water or utilities now for the rest of the weekend. What restitution can I expect. I am worried my new kitchen will be damaged because water will saturate the wood that is in contact with the floor.
Sorry for the length. Thanks for any advice offered.

should of got kitchen units that have legs on
the insurance company will most likely log this as a new claim as it is a separate incident but if the tradesman is proven to have been negligent then the costs of the claim would be recovered from them. the insurance company will have emergency tradesmen who can come out during weekends if you have no water so just explain that to them.
good luck with it all xx
The repair company is liable if they did something wrong. It is not the insurance companies fault.
I would not put in a second claim. If there is just minimal damage, you should get the repair company to cover it or just eat it. If you put in a second claim it is a separate claim and a new deductible would apply so you probly will not get much money anyways. The other thing is if you put in a second claim your company may cancel your policy.
I would not put in a second claim at all for a long time unless it is a serious and expensive claim.
