1. I’d say get some nice neutral colored curtains. You can also buy blinds with it if you’d like.
2. I know what you mean, I just moved into an apartment too. I put a lot of my stuff into extra closets I have around the house. I put my george forman (sp.) grill into the top of my coat closet. So if there is any extra room, store it in there.
3. I keep my laundry stuff in the closets too. My hamper stays in my room, baskets stacked in my closet in our room, and the laundry soap I store in my bathroom or in one of the baskets.

Good luck on organizing everything. It took me awhile to figure where things would go best. Now I gotta find a place to store all the baby toys from my neice =] lol

(1) The blinds are up to you (unless they’re vertical blinds which are just plain unattractive, in which case replace them). Do you need privacy. If so, replace the blinds. If not, go for a lightweight drapery that will soften the window area and give the illusion of more space.

(2) Consider these chrome shelving units for your kitchen. I’ve used them in kitchens before and it gives them a hi-tech look that’s actually useful (see link). I think these shelves are also sold at Wal-Mart.

(3) If you have an attractive clothes hamper, I don’t see anything wrong with its being in plain sight. A decorative shelf installed on the wall could hold your detergent, etc. (second link below).
