I’m 19 and have a stable well paying job and live on my own in a different city about an hour away from my parents. EVERY holiday needing a present, I can never come up with something for my dad. I like to spend 75-100 dollars, not TOO much unless its something good, but I don’t like to be cheap either. My mom is easy to buy for, as I can always get her some sort of kitchen cookware, country home decorations, or hanging plants.
My dad is a little harder to buy for. He doesn’t go for things like holdiays or massages. He buys all the toys he wants, like new TV, etc. He plays bass guitar but he’s just bought a new one and amp and we already have a full studio to go with it. He has all the clothes and stuff like that he needs. He doesn’t really like sports, or movies, or ANYTHING like that. I never know what to get him. I’ve even suggested a gift certificate for a week of groceries or even just a nice dinner but he’s not that type of guy. Does anyone have any good ideas about gifts around the 75 to 100 dollar price range for a 50 year old. He grew up in the 70s.
The gift card thing is a good idea, but i’ve tried it, and he usually ends up not using them and saying he “forgot” about them so they go to waste. And the only places he really shops are like, places he would buy things for the house, and I don’t want it to always be a house/family thing, i want it to be a HIM present.
I’ve even tried taking him out for dinner and he ends up telling me we’re not going unless we bring the whole family, oh, and he’s paying.

Hm.I don’t have anything on my mind, but here is the perfect website to find a gift for anyone. http://www.gifts.com You can shop by personality, budget etc.
Hope it helps.
p.s. hate buying gifts for men - so much easier with girls.
Jus give him a giftcard to his rfavorite store or some money
Get him a gift card of one of his best stores or get him a Portrait of himself,he will surely appreciate that.
Buy him a nice watch, men are not very particular about material anything will do, make him feel you are the best daughter he ever had.
My dad is the same way so I know how you feel.
How about taking him out. Pay the bill BEFORE you get there. That’s the ONLY way I can beat him to the bill, or grab the waiter/waitress before you sit down and tell them that he is NOT to get the bill and hand them the money BEFORE you sit down to order. My dad has gotten up to go to the bathroom only to find him not there, but trying to talk the waitress into taking his money, but she was good and followed my orders, so it does work. If you know where you’re going before hand, you can either pay most of the bill or give them what you think it will cost and they’ll bring you change, or you can insist that they are in NO way to take anything from him and they WILL do it.
You can tell him you’d like to spend some time with him and take him out for mini golf or lunch or dinner and tell the rest of your family that you’d like to take him by yourself. That you want to take him for his birthday. If he wants to take the rest of the family, pay for what you can and then have the rest of the family pay for the rest, or have him pay the rest, but at least you took a good chunk of the bill off his hands, and YOU took HIM out, he did NOT pay for his portion of the bill and you and him BOTH know that.
You can also take him to a movie, or a concert, being he’s into music, is there anyone he would like to see live. You can get him tickets to a concert, or sporting event, or even a Dinner Theater. I’m sure he would enjoy that and it would be just you and him.
You can also go and buy one of those collage frames. They are the big ones with all the different openings. Some are all one size and some are different sizes. You can get them in any store in the framing dept. Kohl’s, Michaels, Linens and things, etc. Get the frame and put pictures of you and your dad through the years in the frame, leaving 2 of the openings blank. One to write Happy Birthday and the date, and one to take a picture of you and him on his actual Birthday, so that when the picture’s printed out, the most recent picture is in the frame. He will LOVE something like that, it’s of his family you and him through the years, it’s like a scrapbook for his wall to hang anywhere he wants and look at whenever he wants. You can even do it with the whole family and do family pictures if you’d rather do that and not just pictures of you and him. You can make it family pictures through the years and then do a family picture the day of his Birthday.
You can also all pitch in and take a Family Portrait and have it framed for him.
Take him on Dinner Cruise if they have them in your area. They’re really cruise, you board the boat and it’s dinner and dancing while the boat sets sail for a few hours.
Being he likes music, is there any Cds that he would like, any singers he would like.
Subscriptions to any magazines or newspapers he would like.
Does he like wine. You can get him a nice bottle of wine and a wine refigerator.
Being he plays guitar, is there a store he shops in that you can go there and get him some accessories for the guitar. You can go and talk to them and see if there’s any extras that he could use for it that you can buy him. If not, get him a gift card for the store, then he’s forced to buy something that’s just for HIM and NOT the house because the gift card is for the music and guitar store, and he would have to buy something for him and his hobby. You can get him a gift card for the full amount so if he wants something extra, you have already given him the money towards it.
What about a gas card. If he commutes back and forth to work you can get him that and if he takes coffee or tea with him, they make travel mugs that you plug into the cigarette lighter and it keeps the drink warm as you’re driving.
Does he have a guitar case for his guitar. You can get him that if he doesn’t already have one. Or the gift card to pay towards one.
Guitar picks are always needed, you can get him a gift card and a bunch of picks to go with it.
What about something for his studio. Like a plaque about #1 Guitar Player or something like that, you can have something made for him. Check your local yellow pages for engravers and plaque makers, they can make anything you want.
Clothes like t-shirts or anything like that.
Does he like to barbeque. Does he grill or work in the yard that you can get him something for the yard.
A Hammock to relax in.
A bench for the yard
A fountain for the yard or his studio
What about putting together a basket of his favorite things. You can put in there some of his favorite magazines, guitar picks, Candy, Snacks, etc, This way, he has his favorites right on hand when he wants them and while watching tv.
You can cook him his favorite meal and dessert. Invite him and your mom over and cook dinner and dessert that includes all his favorite things. You can even shape things like guitars, and make things
Dads are hard to shop for so I get them the Guy Gear Gift Collection Ensemble. It is a great selection of “boy toys” for his workshop, den, office, and more. There are many other different themes to choose from and there is no price amount on it when you give it to him. Just an album of gifts for him to choose from. They just pick the gift, go online and say that is the one they want. They pay nothing. Just go to http://ribbon.arcameda.com and search around. When you go into an album, click on “View the Gift Collection” to see what the album contains. There are two ways to give them the gift, as an album with a gift card or just as a gift card. As you said, a plan gift card is no good. The album that comes with the card gives the person a visual desire to get it and they don’t have to leave the house to get the gift. If you need any further help picking one, go to my profile to email me.
