We are looking at buying a fixer upper. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. A living area, dining area breakfast area, kitchen, entryway and finished basement. We wnat to fix it up and flip it over time and make some money. It is a foreclosure in a nice older neighborhood.nothing fancy. But the kitchen is a small corridor style kitchen. We were thinking it would be allright if we found a place to put some built ins in the breakfast room for cook books or something. And used granite counters and stainless steel appliances and real nice cabinets. What do you think.

Yes, I would buy it unless I had a big family or entertain a lot with tons of guests.
If it’s a nice urban neighborhood, then I’ll bet you’ll get a lot of singles/ couples without kids/ empty-nesters that would be interested. If it’s more of a family area, then it might be on the market for awhile. If you do go for it, then do the kitchen RIGHT. Don’t go overboard, but find a kitchen specialist/ designer that pays attention to details, that knows the neighborhood and has developed techniques for creating the look of a high-end kitchen without spending a fortune. The great part about remodeling a small kitchen is that there’s little difference between doing it cheap and doing it right. I’m a kitchen specialist for Lowe’s and small, high-quality kitchens are my favorite to do.
Is it possible to knock down a wall to open up the breakfast area or dining area. This would be a great value-add, especially if you want to resell the house.
