General Electric (well-known as GE) was founded by the famous inventor Thomas Edison in 1878 under the name of Edison
Electric Light Company. At first the company was inventing the incandescent light bulb and “dynamos” to power neighborhoods
with electricity. By 1890, Edison had opened a lamp factory. In 1892 Edison General Electric Company merged with the Thomson

The late 1800’s and early 1900’s saw the company start expanding to other types of inventions such as x-ray machines, fans,
steam turbines, toasters, radios, refrigerators, and ranges. The 1920′ and 30’s saw GE make improvements on these appliances
as well as revolutionize the world with the new technology including television, washing machines, air conditioners, garbage
disposal, and small kitchen appliances. The 1940’s and 50’s had GE researching to find technology that could improve its
products in homes and industry. Much of this was invested in aircrafts to advance our military abilities. Life became easier
for the homemaker in the 60’s and 70’s with GE’s self-cleaning oven and faster small kitchen appliances. GE continues to make
chores easier with their wide variety of appliances including dishwashers. GE has two types of dishwashers: built-in or
portable.
The GE built-in dishwashers have 85 models for you to choose from retailing from $269 to $1429 before any rebates or sales.
Three exterior styles include traditional, under-the-sink, and 18-inch compact dishwashers. The traditional is the usual
under-the-cabinet model. The under-the-sink model is designed to maximize cabinet space, but it requires a special sink. For
apartments or small kitchens, the 18-inch compact dishwasher can save space.
The GE Profile line of built-in dishwashers offers 33 models with other matching kitchen appliances. This line has a
contemporary design that incorporates the latest technology. The GE Profile has 6 wash levels for the ultimate water supply
to clean dishes. Many of them feature hidden controls to add to that sleek contemporary look. The Profile line of GE
dishwashers can come with a SmartDipense system in which you dispense a whole bottle of dishwasher detergent and the sensors
release just the right amount needed based on water hardness and level of soil. Although the stainless tub is larger than
average-it can hold a 16-place setting instead of the 10-place setting of average dishwashers-the GE Profile dishwasher has a
control setting that allows you to wash the top rack only. This is ideal for running a smaller load without wasting the extra
water. The panels come in black, white, bisque, stainless, or customized panels. All 33 of the GE Profile models are
EngergyStar rated. The Profile series is the more expensive GE line.
The GE series of built-in dishwashers has 52 models to choose from. The mid-range price models also have 6 wash levels with
47 of them EnergyStar rated. The $729 Triton has the large load capacity, quiet operation, and adjustable top rack. As the
price decreases, you will notice a difference in the noise level, number of control features, and wash levels. The $500 range
models have 5 wash levels while the inexpensive models will have only 2 wash levels. The less expensive models also have an
average load capacity instead of the extra large tub. This series comes in bisque, white, black, and stainless.
GE also has four convertible models of dishwashers called Nautilus. These can remain portable or they can be converted to an
under-the-cabinet dishwasher. They have TouchTap controls and a package to reduce noise. If left as portable, the wood grain
laminate top makes an attractive countertop addition to the kitchen for added workspace. All four Nautilus convertible
dishwashers are in the $500 range.
GE has provided technology and appliances to make life more comfortable for over 100 years. With such a wide range of
dishwashers, they still make that comfort affordable for anyone and everyone. Just decide on what features are “must haves”
for you and you’ll find what you need with GE.
