ADDING ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FEATURES
Many standard trim and hidden structural
pieces are available to make unusual
installations easy. Descriptions of some of
these instances follow. If any under counter
refrigeration products or other appliances are
installed at the end of a cabinet run where
side panels are to be installed, a Refrigerator
Spacer (ORS) and Refrigerator Side Panel
(ORP) should be installed to allow for solid
installation and to make a strong base on
which the countertop will sit.
The ORS aligns quickly to the adjacent
cabinet and the side panel if installed against a
wall.
The ORS should also be installed in an island
configuration where it acts as the back panel.
It aligns quickly with the back panel of the
adjacent cabinets or the Refrigerator Side
panel. See Figure 3. The refrigerator spacers
are ordered to match the appliance width
(ORS15, ORS24 and ORS27).
Countertop workspace and prep area is a key
advantage of purchasing an outdoor kitchen
rather than just a grill. A kitchen incorporates
organization, workflow and food preparation
in addition to cooking. To gain the most
flexibility from the kitchen design, it is a good
idea to separate appliances by at least one
cabinet or to use fillers (OFL03, OFL06).
This separation allows for additional
countertop workspace where more than one
person will be cooking or more than one
appliance at a time will be used. Custom fillers
are available on request.
Many installations include one or more
angled wings, or turns in the layout. These
turns can follow a back wall, be covered at the
back with back panels or both. Front angle
fillers of 90 degrees (OAF90) and 135 degrees
(OAF45-named because the cabinets angle at
45 degrees) are available on a standard basis
to make these turns. They have 3 of stainless
on each face and have extensions that easily
attach to the adjacent cabinets. The Easy-
Alignment design locates them properly, flush with
the face of the doors, not the face of the cabinet
behind the door. Many people use a 45-degree
angle away from the cooking and food prep
area to have the refreshment center and
gathering area. Here the kitchen may have an
electrical outlet for a blender, an additional
under counter refrigerator and icemaker, and
a raised countertop for bar-height seating.
Raised Counter Piers (OCP) are available for
the bar-height area. They attach to the back
of the back panels in an island configuration
and stand 41 inches high for the raised
counter to sit on. This is a good place for an
umbrella and bar stools. The 5 space between
the regular countertop and the bar-height
countertop against the face of the RCP can be
covered with the supplied stainless pier facia
or countertop material like a backsplash.
Electrical outlets can also be installed here. If
the facia is used, the gap between the upper
and lower countertop is open so you can see
through and leaves or other debris can blow
through or be swept through from the main
countertop.
All cabinets are 27 7/8 deep (including the
door) except for Viking appliance cabinets
which are 29 7/8 deep (including the door).
Work with your dealer to make sure you get the
appropriate custom trim kits for the brand of
appliances you are purchasing. Grill cabinets are
designated by the size of the cabinet, which is
approximately 6 wider than the grill. For
example, an OGB4221 is a 42 wide grill base
(with 2 drawers and 1 door) for a 36 grill.
The actual cabinet to order must include the
manufacturer and model name of the grill (e.g.
OGB4221-mfg name) so the appropriate trim
kit is included. The stainless steel construction
means the insulated jacket for the grill is NOT
necessary. Refreshment center (Bar Tender)
and Side Burner cabinets follow this
convention of approximately 6 of extra width
for a consistent look. Always provide the
manufacturer s name and model # so the right
trim kit is included.
Stainless back panels are available through
your dealer for island installations. Each
cabinet has its own back panel. Larger
cabinets have two panels. The island could be
finished completely (including any wings)
with back panels or, if partially against a wall,
just the exposed portion. The Easy-
Alignment design allows back panels to be
installed in minutes. Also, as discussed earlier,
an ORS is used as a back panel where under
counter appliances are installed in an island
installation. When back panels and side panels
are installed, no seam is seen from the side. The
side panels are made to the depth of the cabinet
plus the door, plus the back panel thickness. See
Figure 4.
Toe kick is purchased in 8 sections and cut at
installation. It is installed in the front, sides
and back of island installations allowing water
and debris to be cleared out easily.
